It has become everyone’s responsibility to combat pollution in all its forms, ensuring a sustainable environment for future generations. Staying true to our commitment to environmental stewardship, Bangko Kabayan (BK) has spearheaded several projects dedicated to preserving our waters and lands.
Coastal and River Cleanups
In collaboration with local barangays in both Luzon and Visayas, BK has conducted several coastal and river cleanups. In Gumaca, Quezon, BK staff and volunteers, in partnership with the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity & Sorority Alumni, worked with Barangay Hondagua Lopez to ensure the effectiveness of their cleanup efforts. Signages regarding the municipal ordinance were placed as reminders of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and respecting local laws. Barangay Hondagua is also committed to holding joint environmental seminars for residents and fishermen and conducting monthly cleanups.
Similarly, in Sta. Fe, Cebu, BK staff and volunteers engaged in a coastal cleanup in Barangay Talisay, benefiting over 3,000 individuals. BK also supported a river cleanup in Nagcarlan, Laguna, providing cleaning materials and environmental signage to promote sustainability.
Tree Planting Initiatives
In addition to cleanup projects, BK is actively involved in tree-planting efforts across various regions. On June 15, 2024, BK partnered with the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippines) and local organizations for the Bakawan Rehabilitation Program in Barangay Palanas, Lemery, Batangas. This program was launched in response to the loss of habitat for migrant birds due to flooding and tree loss in the area.
On June 29, 2024, in celebration of World Environment Day and Philippine Eagles Week, BK, together with partners such as the Ibaan Host Lions Club and the Malampaya Foundation, Inc., held a tree-planting event at the Sagingan River Bank in Sitio Burol, Barangay Coliat, Ibaan, Batangas. The theme, Sa Ilog ng Pag-Asa, Puno ay Mahalaga, highlighted the importance of trees in reducing flooding and improving air quality.
Plastic Waste Proper Disposal Collection
BK continues its environmental advocacy through initiatives like the Plastic Waste Proper Disposal Collection program. In partnership with the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Philippines) and the Taal Batangas Eagles Club, BK educated students, teachers, and parents in Taal, Batangas, on how to segregate and dispose of plastic waste properly. This initiative aims to protect biodiversity and promote responsible recycling practices.
A Commitment to Global Goals
Bangko Kabayan's environmental advocacy also aligns with the United Nations' sustainability goals, particularly SDG No. 13 – Climate Action and SDG No. 14 – Life Below Water, reinforcing our commitment to creating positive environmental change. Through these ongoing projects, BK actively contributes to a healthier, cleaner environment for current and future generations.
