Joint 8S and X-Trash Challenge Project

Last June 14, 2022, Bangko Kabayan Human Resource Department (HRD) and Bangko Kabayan Foundation, Inc. (BKFI) released the Joint 8S and X-trash Challenge Project. The objective of these projects was to create awareness of the basic concepts of 8S of Good Housekeeping to implement the 8S project in the workplace and to collaborate with the BKFI in participating in this year's X-Trash challenge year 2.

In 2014, the HRD initiated the 5S of Good Housekeeping together with the General Services Administration Department (GSAD). The department heads and BOHs became the overall in-charge in their respective departments/branches for implementing the program.

As years go by, the program evolves, and the 8S of Good Housekeeping is the current clean and green program of the bank. The general concept of the 8S is to optimize the physical workspace for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining orderliness and cleanliness in the area, and sustaining the new order to ensure the safety of the workers in the most efficient manner.

On the other hand, BKFI joined the Philippines Business for Social Progress (PBSP) X-trash Challenge in 2021 through the donations of Bangko Kabayan volunteers and generated 257.58 kilos of trash (paper, plastic & metals) as a donation to PBSP.

X-Trash Challenge is a concept from Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the country's largest business-led NGO. X-Trash Challenge is a solid waste collection activity in partnership with Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies, Inc. (BEST). They invited companies to take on the challenge of the environment.

All the recyclables from the 8S program will be part of the X-trash donation. X-trash is segregation at source (at home and BK office). All recyclable trash should be clean and dry to avoid foul smells.

The Joint 8S and X-Trash Challenge project started in June 2022 until September 9, 2022. An online orientation last June 16, 2022, has been given to BK employees for more understanding of this program.
